Following orthodontic treatment, Invisalign or Fixed, long-term retention is generally required. Essix-type retainers are clear and comfortable, but only last 6-12 months on average. Hawley retainers last for years, but patients, particularly Invisalign patients, have a hard time transitioning to that style of retainer. The Clear Fusion Hybrid Retainer combines the best of both styles. Patients have been impressed with their fit and comfort, and I expect that they will prove to be more durable than the Essix-type retainer.

I Have been prescribing Clear Fusion Hybrid Retainers for over a year and I am very pleased with them. I routinely use them as removable retainers at the end of "Fixed" treatment. I find that there is very good patient compliance wearing them as they are "invisible" - once in the mouth. At the same time, they can be made with the part of the retainer behind the teeth in different colors- and are thus less likely to be lost. They generally fit at the time of insertion with little or no adjustments, and they hold lower anterior teeth as does an "Essix Retainer" but are more rigid and are less prone to "soften" and allow teeth to move.

I Just inserted yet another Hybrid Appliance. So far each has fit perfectly (no adjustments necessary). Patients returning with appliances all are pleased with the fit and feel. Patient cooperation, when I need the appliance worn full-time, is much improved because of appearance and ease. I look forward to expanding the envelope, finding more uses for the Hybrid Appliances.

The reason I am e-mailing you is to let you know that my patients who I have delivered the Hybrid Retainers to, truly love them. Majority of my patients want clear retainers and as you know I like the traditional hawleys for many reasons. The Hybrid I believe could be a win-win for both the Orthodontist and the patient.
